The aim of this series of blogs is to tell you more about the core values that set Blues & Browns apart from the fast fashion market. Today we would like to take the opportunity to share a little more detail about how we have honed our craft to not only bring you a handcrafted garment, tailormade here in Scotland just for you, but a unique experience which encourages you to have a say in the design of your garment.
Our mission is to celebrate Scottish heritage and combine it with our expert level of craftsmanship to create beautiful, bespoke ladies fashion. – Blues & Browns
It was during Kairen’s acting days that she discovered the delights of the wardrobe department, it was this intoxicating world that fueled her love of costume and design. Costumes helped her embody the characters she played and discovering the endless wardrobes, ready to help her transform into characters from any conceivable period began to “sew” the seeds of her future plans. Inspired by the idea of having her own wardrobe department, she later discovered she could create clothing for her customers to take to the stage we call life!
11 years ago, Kairen found her incredibly talented head tailor, Melinda Juhasz, this allowed them to forge the Blues & Browns bespoke brand as we know it today. Melinda’s traditional tailoring training and experience is at the heart of all that we do.

For those of you that have read our last blog Heritage Over High Street, you’ll know that we have spent many years building partnerships with local producers to help us bring our bespoke tailoring service to you, but finding the right companies has taken a lot of trial and error!!
“I am incredibly lucky to have found great people who also enjoy having a good old natter about everything and anything! They have now become friends as well as supplying the best products.”– Kairen Alexis Ruse
From our previous blog, you will know that fast fashion lacks any heritage or provenance, often using large factories to mass produce cheap versions of haute couture, to maximise profits. It is deeply saddening to see that our once thriving garment manufacturing industries have all but disappeared due to companies moving their production abroad.
This has been the driving force behind our passion to highlight the craftsmanship that goes into a Blues & Browns garment. We cannot emphasise enough that craftsmanship is all about quality and the heritage and provenance is the ethos of the company, showing the world what a Scottish company can produce.
“Our customers know how their garment was made, where it was made and who made it.” – Melinda Juhasz
With our years of expertise in designing and making clothes we try to advise and guide our clients through the Blues & Browns experience, treating our customers as individuals, each of whom has a very different personality, shape and requirements.
If you would like to enquire about Blues & Browns creating a garment for you, get in touch here and we would be delighted to welcome you to our Perth or Edinburgh locations for an initial consultation.
